Work/vacation time questions?

Postby vohkinne » Thu Mar 31, 2011 2:30 pm

I have been employed by my company for 17 months now. I have earned 2 weeks of paid vacation (accumulating a week after every 6 months). I have been denied taking a full week off, after 4 different vacation requests. I live in michigan, and I have been doing research with the michigans labor laws.

I am exceptionally frustrated with my employer. I am just a call center rep in a very small office. I was denied taking a week off to go see my dying grandfather 6 states away. The owner "compromised" by giving me friday off. Like I am going to be able to drive 700 miles in 3 days. The reasoning for me not being able to take the full time off is because I was/have been training two new employees. Apparently Im important enough to be required to stay just to answer questions. But when it was time to get a raise, I was "graded" upon my basic required work, nothing to do with the fact that they required me to train and manage-tasks that lowered my basic work functions. Therefore no raise.

If my grandfather dies, I may just end up suing the company.

I am desperately applying to other jobs. In the meantime... what can I do about the vacation time? I need a break.. I am losing my mind. When the two new girls were hired, I worked 65 hours a week, no lunch break, because I had to be able to watch over the new people. I worked every day of the week. I did receive overtime for that. But I just might kill someone if I don't get a break

Work/vacation time questions?

Wow! First of all, your employer is a total douche bag for continuing to deny you any time off!!!!

Are these 2 new employees finished with their training? Is there someone else within the company that you could possibly get to work for you?

Have you looked into FMLA (Family & Medical Leave Act)

If you are going to your supervisor, I would take the matter above them (their higher ups) and explain the situation to them and what your supervisor has been doing. If they do nothing about it, then I would most definately contact the labor board about the multitude of violations that this company is doing.

If they still wont let you off to go be with family, call out. Worse case scenario, they'll fire you but you can always fight it if they wont grant you unemployment.

Keep searching for another job, girl... you dont deserve the crap those bastards are putting you through!
