Would "comprehensive immigration reform" solve the illegal immigration problem?

Postby gabrielo19 » Mon Feb 15, 1971 1:48 am

Even if every illegal alien were made a citizen tomorrow, would the people who hire illegals so they could pay them less just hire "new" illegals rather than the new citizens, to whom all labor laws would clearly apply? Would this create a mass of unemployed new citizens? How have advocates of illegal immigration reform addressed this concern? Thanks.

What short memories you all have. The Reagan amnesty set the tone for what would happen if the action was repeated. All the newly legal "immigrants" were fired and a whole new batch of illegal migrants were hired (because the employers still didn't want to pay minimum wage and payroll taxes and no one was forcing them to). Legitimate unemployment exploded and the amnesty only served as a magnet for more migration since the "securing the border" part of Reagan's bill was cleverly ignored - much like what would happen now. The only difference in 2010 is that mixed in with all those worker class migrants are now some of the most blood-thirsty organized crime figures on earth.

Amnesty is not a valid option as fails to address the people going through a very lengthy process of trying to enter our country legally. In fact, amnesty penalizes them for going through proper channels. Seal the border and enforce an employee tax instead of a personal tax ( if you work, you pay).

Every criminal immigrant that was given citizenship would nearly immediately join the ranks of the unemployed.. as the next wave of criminal immigrants moves in.

The solution is to seal the boarder and remove the people who broke the law getting here.

No. Sealing the U.S. borders will.
