Would i get assault charges for this?

years ago a drug addict approached me with his hand in his pocket and said give me your phone and wallet. he started to draw whatever was in his pocket but it appeared to have got stuck so i kicked him then ran like hell. nothing ever came of it because i didn't inform the police because i was concerned that in the eyes of the law i had done the wrong thing by kicking him when he hadn't actually attacked me or even made a direct threat, he just demanded my phone and wallet and starting pulling whatever he was carrying.

If you were afraid then it was self defense. You should have done more to him.

even if it was, its hard for assault charges to stick. 1. there was no witnesses 2. someone has to press the charges and obviously a robber isnt going to call the cops. 3. he was trying to rob you haha etc etc

In light of circumstances, I think any reasonable person might have done the same thing. Don't think prosecutor would go forward with that case.
