About speed limits in construction zones?

Postby werner72 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 5:22 am

Are the speed restrictions in construction zones applicable when it is overnight and no one is there, or when weather is severe, or on statutory holidays ? I am asking, because being the safe driver that I am, (have never been pulled over, never had a ticket, never had a crash in 25 years of driving ) I obey the speed limit, but I am getting honked at all the time, and being passed by everyone in the above situations.

Don't worry about people honking their horns. Their not going to pay your ticket anyway.

Driving speed limit doesn't cause accidents. Stupid people that think they own the road does.

You haven't had an accident for 25 years doing what you did. So stick with it.

It works just fine.

Sometimes doing the right law abiding thing is wrong. There is one thing that is more dangerous than not obeying the speed limit and that is not keeping with the flow of traffic. Driving faster than traffic causes wrecks and driving slower than the traffic flow causes wrecks. Driving slower than the traffic flow causes cars to bunch up, tailgating, and rear end collisions. Impatient people will blow their horns, but some people may blow their horns to let you know that you are driving dangerously by not keeping up with the traffic flow especially in heavy traffic.

I can't speak for Canada, but where I live they go by ACTIVE Construction Zones. If no one is there then it's not active. Around here they usually shut them down on holidays, but on some they still can't and those you should still observe it(like here in the US we sometimes go to one lane places on an Interstate and they can't reopen the other lane for holiday travel, or it is one lane each way on the North or South bound as the other one is totally closed.

It kind of depends on which state you're driving in... Some states enforce the lowered speed limit at all times, while others only enforce it while workers are present.

I would guess that if everyone else is honking and passing you, that the construction speed limits in your area are enforced only when workers are present.

Um, the speed limits is there until there are no more signs that say SPEED LIMIT regardless of what time it is or day. IF there are workers present, then the fine is doubled. forget those other morons, let them get a speeding ticket

As long as the sign does not exclude the time you are driving or the conditions it is in force. So, you have your share of foolish drivers there, too?
