Air Force security forces or Navy master at arms?

Postby francisco » Sun May 06, 2012 12:31 am

Currently I'm in 11th grade and go to a vocational school for criminal justice and I'm very interested in going into Law Enforcement as a cop or something with the feds. I was just wondering if I should join the Air Force for Security Forces or the Navy Master at Arms. I heard that Security Forces is very boring but I also heard that doing K9 or Phoenix Raven is very good. I like the Navy because I've had some family in there, but I heard the Master at Arms is also very boring. Which branch is better for becoming a cop?

Thank you very much.

You can work with K9s in the Navy as well. I personally think the travel options are unrivaled in the Navy. I am a Corpsman in the Navy but I do auxiliary security force duty. It's quite boring but I'm also stationed at a sleepy little base in Virginia.

On the other hand the quality of life is unmatched in the Air Force.

Choose whatever branch you think you would prefer. I would choose Air Force. However, one won't be any better or any worse for "becoming a cop". Being a veteran is what can help you get a police officer job or other law enforcement officer job. Veterans get extra points on civil service tests and preference for federal jobs. Some law enforcement agencies that require applicants to have college will waive some or all of their college requirements for veterans. Also, some people simply like to hire qualified veterans whenever they get the chance to. Regardless of what branch you join, try to get at least some college while you're in, and finish a degree when you can. Getting a college degree is one of the best things that you can do if you want to become a law enforcement officer. Best of luck!
