Am I eligible for Welfare benefits I live with my parents?

Postby eddis » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:57 am

Ok, first please don't tell me to get a job, neither I nor my parents have transportation to get anywhere. I live in a small rural town that has hardly any jobs at all the closest jobs are 25 miles away. I have no family here other than my parents to help, nor any friends, there is no bus, there is no taxi service, or any other transportation service unless your old and disabled. I have applied for jobs here in town several times but they do not seem to want to bother w/ me. I'm a 24yr old female, I am not a lazy person, I have to walk to town everyday (3 miles) to get anything, I have to help sort out my families finances, I don't drink or smoke, and I have never been in trouble w/ the law. I have no income whatsoever, and I am sick and tired of leaning on my parents I want to eventually move out. I want to get benefits such as medical so I can go to a doctor w/ out paying with cash, and maybe they can help me get in the workforce so I don't have to be on it forever. I have no children, I am not pregnant, nor am I disabled. Does welfare provide for people like me or do I have to be prego to do anything anymore. My parents are not in the workforce either, my dad is on SSI and my mother is unemployed. I do make little money from what I sell on eBay but that is it, not hardly anything. Oh yeah I live in PA.

So let's recap. Instead of moving where the jobs are you just stay there and hope the government will subsidize your laziness?

After reading your other questions, I think you may be in the "woe is me" stage of your life. The only way out is to educate yourself, even if it's online or borrowing books. After all, you do have access to the internet and a computer.

Then, you have to find a family member or someone who lives in a place where there are more opportunities. Ask them to take you in, find a job, and start to live your life.

If you are able bodied, the government has no responsibility to take care of you. No one is going to come to your door and offer you the things you want, you have to get them yourself.

P.S. Why don't you get a bike instead of walking 3 miles????

If you live in the country, there must be a road with cars that pass your house. Plant a big garden, harvest vegetables and sell them at a roadside stand.

Make Quilts or something and sell them on Ebay. Build bird houses, make candles, knit sweaters, etc. and sell to people in town. There are tons of things you could do and should have been doing for the last 5 years since high school.

You can't just sit there and feel sorry for yourself, that's not the way to accomplish anything. You will wait a long time for someone to come and bail you out of the mess you think you are in. What have you been doing to help yourself?

I usually would tell someone to stop wining and do something about your situation. But I understand that you are in a situation where you can't seem to get out of.

I've read your other posts and I really believe that you are depressed. Depression is a serious issue. And with depression, you can't just snap out of it. FIRST THING, I would see a doctor and get this issue under control. It may be depression or maybe something physical; either way resolve it.

As for your life. You are 24 and have no education. Until you resolve this, you are not going to go anywhere. I would recommend - college. Financial aid is available (NOT STUDENT LOANS). Financial aid will pay for school, and could even pay for a place to live. Community College is a good way to go. Usually if you do well there, you can transfer to a 4 year college your last 2 years. If you don't know where to look for financial aid, talk with your high school or call your community college.

You will need to find a place to live there and a part time job there. A place to live would be a room, not an apartment.

However, you will need seed money to get there and set up. Figure out how much you need and then start looking for it. Talk with your church or yes, your welfare office. You do have relatives and even if they loan you a couple hundred each, you may have enough to get to the school/town. Once there, the financial aid will kick in.

Does your situation suck. YEP! However, it's not hopeless. And NO, 24 y/o is not to old for college.

Good luck.

This is an old thread, but I just happened upon it while searching for something. Let me first say that everyone who replies is a giant asshole. I'm talking serious fucking pricks. There was a bit of useful info in one of the replies, but nobody really answered your question, because they are all a bunch of dipshits who should be bludgeoned with a shoehorn.

Welfare depends on the law of your area, but generally there will be household income guidelines that determine what you are eligible for. So contact your local office for details. Info and applications can usually be found online too. This may not be as much detail as you were hoping for but at least I tried to actually provide the information you requested.

To most everyone else who replied to this, go fuck yourselves.
