Am I required by law to give my employer a reason behind a personal day?

Postby muireach » Mon Oct 31, 2011 2:46 am

I live in the state of Georgia, for the record. I've looked on the Ga. Dept of Labor page, and I can't find specific details, but basically all I want to know is whether or not I am required to give a reason when I ask for a day off from my job. Every time I do, my employer asks for my reasoning and then questions it, and I feel like this is either illegal or just an invasion of my privacy. I would love to have hard evidence from a reliable source that I could print out and bring with me to work.

Any advice on where I could find it?

there is NO law that says you must give a reason,
there is NO law that says the employer has to allow you to take off either.........

if the employer request a reason and you refuse to give it they may discipline you, up to termination.......

if this was a policy violation and they terminated you it would be with "cause" which means NO unemployment compensation......

There is no law that forces you to tell your employer why you want a personal day, That is your business unless there is a policy covering it. Make sure you are not violating any company policy. If it is not covered then you are not required to explain your need for a personal day.

Michr is absolutely right. There is no law that says you have to tell your employer why you want a day off. But that employer does NOT have to give you that time off if you refuse to tell them. And there is no law that says they cannot ask why you need the day off either.

No, not by law. And they aren't required by law to GIVE you a personal day either. You are forgetting that YOU work for THEM.

No. And in most states they're not required to give you a reason when they fire you, for that matter.
