Can an employer legally & purposely interfere with you accepting another position with a different employer?

If an employee was offered another job with another employer and his/her present employer knew about it, and they interfered making the employee not receive the job position. Then 2 weeks later the employer let the employee go stating that there was no longer a need for that employee. Isn't there a labor law issues involved?
