Another insane jury award, a converted muslim and trial lawyer, hit the jackpot, is tort reform needed?

Liberals and trial lawyers are partners joined at the hip. They support each other's causes and when liberals demanded government to control health care, the litigious permeation of health care was never changed- all the expense of malpractice insurance, the tests and procedures patients are forced to endure and all the needless costs associated with fear of litigation are ALL the result of trial lawyers who prey on every medical worker, business and industry. Trial lawyers donated tens of millions to Obama's 2008 campaign, is it any surprise, Obama Care ignores this cancer in the health care industry?

Recenly, a worker who conspired with trial lawyers to extort $5 million dollars for workplace conflict.
These types of lawyers get paid 40% contingcy fees, so the lawyers will walk with $2 million and the Muslim victim, will walk with $3 million.

For a woman who makes $70 k per year, how does paying her 71 years in damages make sense?
If her claims were true, would $500k would have been too much?

Why can't we have reasonable limits on jury awards, preventing these types of insane jury awards?

I just bet the jury was loaded with liberals. They just love to give away other peoples money. The award makes no sense what so ever.

I guess that company will now decide if they want to change their practices.....if the award were smaller, $10,000 or $20,000 of $500,000 they may not bother, just a cost of doing business.....like Ford Motors deciding that it was cheaper to get sued for damages caused by exploding Pintos than to fix the problem at $600M.........

"A former Kansas City woman who converted to Islam in 2005 said she was harassed for years at AT&T, and that the abuse boiled over in 2008 when her boss snatched her head scarf and exposed her hair."

Oooooooh ya. You lose big for something like that.

Deep pockets, unwarranted physical contact.

Boss man goin' dowwwwwwwnnnn....

Texas implemented tort reform on medical lawsuits with the promise that it would reduce the cot of health care. And did it? No. If anything it increased the number of medical lawsuits because now medical companies could operate with a known cost of dangerous or fraudulent practices.

They're intended to be punitive. Suing a company for 1/10 of their paperclip budget for the year isn't going to deter the activity that brought them to court in the first place, you have to make it hurt.

McDonalds doesn't care if you sue them for $15,000, they make 4 billion a year, that's proportionate to a 0.37 cent fine to a guy who makes 100k a year. If you want to actually punish them for hurting someone you have to make it more substantial.
