I have a Dayton 30# scale, Style 170. Capacity 30lbs. , No. 144A. 4 to 60. The patent dates read from Sept. of 1895 tp December of 1904. It is in pieces and needs to be reassembled. It was my father-in-law's and he asked me to finish it for him. He died now and I love old things and want to reassemble it because I promised him. It worked well before he took it apart to repaint it and clean it up. Where can I go for guidance or drawings of how it goes together and gets recalculated? I owe it to him and need help!
ANSWER: Hi Keith,
The patent drawings may help you reassemble your scale but in order to do that you would have to have Patent numbers and/or dates. If you send us patent dates at [email protected]
, we can probably get numbers for you. If you have the patent numbers which may be listed on the scale you can research them at http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html. If we can be of additional help, let us know.
Hope this helps. Weigh Daily!!!

Thank you for the quick response. I do find a six digit number on a weight window bezel that is 396334.Could that be a patent number? Also a phrase that reads "When ordering will specify Design No. 87.G." The patent dates are as follows: Sept. 3,1895, re-issued April 28,1896, Pat. January 11,1898, April 24,1900 , May 28, 1901 , June 18,1901, May 19, 1903 , and December 6, 1901.
