Appropriate food items to serve at my 1 year old sons' birthday party?

Postby chozai65 » Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:16 pm

The time is 12:30-3:30 pm with about 40 people and some kids.

We were thinking making baked ziti with bread and of course cake and ice cream. Our family all loves pasta! But my mom in law suggested crackers, cheese, and dips. I thought because it it was during lunch our guests would like a better meal?

what would you expect for food at a 1st birthday party from 12:30 - 3:30?

Spinach dip and crackers and maybe hot dogs. Shaved ice with sliced strawberries and condensed milk (lechera). As a fruity yummy drink; scoops of sherbert icecream in a bowl with sprite.

If you know everyone will eat the ziti..(some kids are picky) that sounds good. 3 hours isn't a lot of time...lunch, snacks and dessert, may be to much food. I would make a veggie platter, with ranch on the side, and some kiddie snacks on hand.

Leave some pasta plain! My kids love pasta but don't like sauce on it.

Hot dogs are choking hazards for kids, so I wouldn't do those.

Kids that age like goldfish.

For the adults crackers and cheese and dips probably will go over better, but you can do both. Usually at kids birthday parties and other playdates parents just want a snack, not a meal.

With 40 people coming it wouldn't be horrible to do crackers, 1 dip, and a baked ziti in addition to cake. You can probably skip the ice cream for a 1 year olds birthday party. I would recommend offering a snacky food though, for those who are a bit hungry but don't want anything they have to consider a meal.
