I am watching a classic bout of 7th Heaven and Lucy in her early teen years is scanning this book known as The Recommendations. Evidently they're tried and tested recommendations on the best way to get Mr. Proper. Well I looked it-up on Amazon.com and the book exists, so I was just wondering if some of you women on Askville had really browse the book and what you regarded it.This is just real human consideration, I definitely do not require the book. I am just interested to see if it worked for any girls out there.

I read the book years ago.  I tried applying some of the rules in a new, recent relationship.  He saw right through it.  I have better luck just being myself.

Maybe it would work for a woman if the men in her life hadn't read it, but in my opinion it would be counterproductive for a woman if a man had read it and knew that she was going by it -- he would be able to take advantage of her inflexible, predictable behavior and responses.  Honesty and authenticity work out best for both sides in the long run, if both sides are looking for a win-win situation.

Is that the book that generated some controversy a few years back because the authors had some weird ideas like "not accepting a date after Wednesday"? Didn't one of the authors get divorced shortly after the book came out?

The book was written after the Lucy Show went off the air, iirc, but i read it, and it was pretty funny.
