Are these types of driving mistakes normal?

Postby nickson » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:49 pm

I fairly recently got my drivers license (about four months ago) and I feel like I make more mistakes than normal. I've never hit anything, been in an accident or gotten tickets, but maybe that's just luck. I still get nervous when I have to make left turns at busy intersections, It takes me more than one Uh attempt to pull in to any parking space on the left side and just the other day I was turning left on a unfamiliar four lane road when I realized I was in the incoming traffic lane for a few seconds. I quickly changed lanes, I turned thinking that the four lane road was two separate oncoming/incoming roads. I feel so stupid for making such a dangerous mistake. Do normal drivers ever make mistakes like these? or am I just a really terrible driver?

At 4 months drivers license- you're a newbie/new driver that has a high incidence of crashing according to insurance and DOT records. SO, you're not the only one making mistakes. Try riding a motorcycle for a year and you'll soon learn to pay attention to traffic to survive. For now, reread the drivers manual, set your mirrors and turn off radios and cell phones, buckle up seat belt. Drive a 10 year old beater with lots of dents already, extra bumpers, crash bars might help..

Most new drivers (and experienced ones too) are weak at lane changing in heavy traffic, making left turns at busy intersections when there is no protected turn arrow, backing up, and observation skills (development of peripheral vision)
We are human, and we all make mistakes and hopefully learn from them.
We also have bad days......so just have to be more careful.
