Are we nearing the end of marijuana prohibition?

Postby kendon19 » Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:46 pm

Just a couple years ago a lot of people (including myself) still believed strongly against marijuana, standing behind facts such as "it kills brain cells".
Even if you search this site, any marijuana question a couple years old will bring up responses full of "it makes you dumb and will kill you".
Questions asked in the present, and the majority of the online community now clearly believes strongly for the legalization of the drug.

As we speak there are legalization bills is California and Massachusetts, as well as many other states that have decriminalized.
Obama just called off the Federal law for prosecuting medicinal patients.

Do you think we are approaching the end of prohibition? Something we could possibly see in our lifetimes? And do you support prohibition?

I would like to see it legalized, sold in liquor stores, subject to the same controls as alcohol. But I don't think it's going to happen. The only people who seem to think we're legalizing pot are Republicans and conservatives who insist Obama is going to legalize it, just as he's going to ban guns and make Christianity illegal. Obama says it's not even on the table.

Many states have voted to legalize it for medical use but the fed. govt. interferes with this constantly. Many cities and counties have announced they're no longer going to waste police and court time on casual pot users. But that's miles away from actual legalization.

It just comes down to politicians being afraid to be seen as 'soft on drugs', so they have to compete with each other to be tough on drugs. The only politicians who dare to suggest that the War on Drugs isn't working are those who don't plan to run for re-election.

Are we nearing the end of marijuana prohibition?

Postby fiacre68 » Sat Nov 19, 2011 12:00 am

Obama scoffed 92,000 people on live television who emailed him concerning the legalization of marijuana.

Great link you posted. It is a website created by a stoner. It holds no water.

"Weed" will never be legal in your life time. Get a job, find a life and stop killing your braincells smoking that crap.

I have partaken in weed in my history for many different reasons. None of which were medicinal. I hope the drug stays on the illegal list. When a person passes through the stage of recreation into addiction, it isnt pretty. Weed leads to other things whether it be today or ten years from now. Our bodies build up a tolerance to it. Then we lose patience to wait for it to work. Then we find another drug to do the work quicker.

My guess is that yes it will happen within a few years.I don't use it. I did when I was younger.I would favor decriminalization.Making growing what you want for your own use just like tomatoes legal I'm nobody to judge or criticize others for using pot. I do however believe that you should not drive a car after smoking. Not nearly as dangerous as alcohol but it will slow your reaction time. The government is wasting far too much money chasing around hunting it and wasting the court's time and money.

America never learned the lesson of the prohibition of alcohol. It is republicans trying to force their rules on you. Unless your Rush the oxi-cotin cowboy or the criminal Cindy the felon drug stealer McCain.

I hope so. This is how it should go:

1. Legalize Marijuana - sometime in 2010
2. Legalize Prostitution - sometime in 2011

Actually Massachusetts is just decriminalizing, and only for a very small amount.

Well the alcohol lobby has some dog in this fight as do companies that run prisons - I suppose we will have to look at Obamas campaign contributors list to find the answer.
