Why is Prohibition of Marijuana Pointless?

Postby talbot » Sat Oct 29, 2011 12:22 pm

I have to write an essay on why Marijuana should be legal.
I have almost my whole essay done. I'm on my final paragraph, and I'm half way through, but I can't seem to come up with more reason's why Prohibition is Pointless.
This is what I have so far:

The third major reason that marijuana should be legal is because prohibition does not help in any way, and causes a lot of problems. There is no good evidence that prohibition decreases drug use. One effect of marijuana prohibition is that marijuana is very popular in high schools. Why? Because it is available. You don't have to be 21 to buy marijuana -marijuana dealers usually don't care how old you are as long as you have money. - It is actually easier for many high school students to get a hold of marijuana than it is for them to get a hold of alcohol, because alcohol is legal and therefore, its required to keep it away from kids. But saying its illegal, doesn’t mean it’s going to stop kids from doing it. It’s illegal to consume alcohol in Canada if you’re under the age of 19, but does that stop kids from actually obeying the law? The government isn’t really doing anything by making marijuana illegal. By saying it’s prohibited, isn’t going to stop any body. If people like marijuana, and want to have it, they’re going to get it, no matter what the law says.

legalizing marijuana would decrease crime as there wouldn't be much profit in the drug market. It also helps chronic illnesses and cancer with pain from treatments allowing more painful but effective treatments to be used

Why is Prohibition of Marijuana Pointless?

Maybe for your last paragraph you can take someone's personal experience and use that. My Dad was dying of Stage Four Lung Cancer. He was prescribed Marisol or Mariset,...I don't even remember. But it was the pill form of Marijuana. It was a ridiculous amount of money. More then a hundred dollars a pill. My Aunt went out and bought Marijuana and on my Dad's last night alive and talking on this planet, we basically got stoned. We all got goofy and stupid. But it was the one time when my Dad asked for something to eat. He wanted a banana Popsicle. We got him one and the next morning he was gone. I'll never ever forget our last night. I firmly believe in the legalization of Marijuana. That was the first time I've ever done it. And the last. I didn't like it so much. Made me feel stupid. But it made my Dad happy.
