Bank deposited $20,000 into my account 1 year ago by mistake?

I have not called them to tell them about it
The source is straight from the bank (transfer direct from them).
Not the employer, insurance, etc
Clearly a mistake on their part

How long do you have to let the money sit in the account until it's yours and you can use it?
What law does that fall into?
- 6 months?
- 7 year statute of limitations
- 10 year law where if you live in a property it's yours?

This question is hypothetical.

There is no Statute of Limitations running until they ask you for it back.

While riding in your car - I drop my wallet which contains $20,000.00. I can not find my wallet - do not know what I did with it. You found it but left it in your car for 1-year. No the law you are violating is criminal. If you spend my money or the bank's money - then it would be the subject of larceny.

It is never alright for you to spend that money. You know from Day 1 (or should) that the 20k is not yours, so there is no time limit. They can go back at any time and get the money.
