Basic Speeding ticket?

Postby adalwine » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:36 am

Yesterday I was heading home from a concert and was driving the speed limit, i approached a green light where i wanted to turn right, I have a manual car so i was gear breaking (this is where i put the car into a lower gear in order for it to break for me instead of actually using my breaks as hard as normal.) This causes the engine to get into higher RPMs but it doesnt sound like i am trying to rev it. As i began to go around the turn a nearby sprinkler had been spraying water onto the road and it trickled down to in front of the turn, the water was almost invisible to the naked eye and so when i hit the water my car began to fishtail. I remained in my lane the entire time and was in control of the car but was pulled over shortly later

The cop was not happy to see me haha. I was written up for basic speeding and she told me that i entered the turn to fast and that she originally thought i was racing. I was going maybe 12 MPH max around the turn and i only accelerated when half way through the turn like you are supposed to.

I obviosuly plan to fight this ticket and I was hoping to get some advice on what to expect or what to bring to prove my side. The ticket is for Basic Speed (01.032) and doesnt say how fast i was going, then on the line for the fine all it says is court.

Thanks a ton :)

The cop wants to make sure you show up in court so that the judge can make sure that you take respsonsibility for what happened.

You were driving too fast. You can accept that and slow down, or you can keep making excuses.

You should not be driving so fast that an unexpectedly wet bit of pavement causes you to fishtail. You got lucky this time. The next time, more "invisible" water or an "invisible" pothole could send you fishtailing into another car.

Or a pedestrian.

Slow down and stop making excuses.

Or, wait for the judge to tell you the same thing.
