Best online schools for bachelors degrees?

Postby treasigh » Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:12 am

I am active duty US Army, so I need to be able to continue my classes when I am deployed. I am from MA but UMASS online doesnt offer instate tuition for online classes. So it would cost me $22,200 per year to complete 30 credits. I am going to school for criminal justice. If I get my degree from University of Pheonix or a similur school, I will not be able to go to law school in the future. I am wondering if there are any other serious online schools besides UMASS that would cost me less, but not make me look like a joke.

Best online schools for bachelors degrees?

Many traditional and respected "brick & mortar" colleges now offer courses and degrees online.

Three purely online schools with decent reputations are:

Western Governors U
Excelsior College
Athabasca U

Do NOT be tempted by American Military University. It's just another worthless predatory for-profit school targeting active military.

A criminal justice degree is not very useful. The only thing it's good for is going into law enforcement, but military experience is even better for that. You can go to law school with any degree.

If you want a fully online bachelor's program, there aren't many. Washington State University offers a few for a more reasonable tuition (~14k). If you're just looking to take a few classes while you're deployed and finish the degree in-person later, almost all public universities offer at least some classes online.

I was in the same predicament. I too am active duty military and I needed to complete my bachelors online from a traditional, reputable school. This site helped me choose:
