Hello and here is the details.
My boyfriend has worked at this job for 9 months. The store has just recently changed over from corporate owned to franchise. Shortly after that there was an issue with the last store manager and now they have a temp store manager and a lady training to be the new store manager.
Now the district manager comes in and had to throw away "12 salads" from what I heard because they were not dated. The blame falls on my boyfriend because he's the "prep guy" even though he only came in to work for 2 days that week. (This is how they schedule him because of labor. He asks for more hours and sometimes they give him more sometimes they don't.)
Many people at the job know for a fact he dates his salads and does his job correctly and is great. But the people who did the not dating of the salads will not own up to it because they do not want to get into trouble. So due to this the district manager has told the managers to hire a new prep guy and let the old one go. This has been going on to many employees there. We are thinking that they are trying to find reasons to fire the old crew and hire in new people.
My boyfriend is not even suppose to know about getting fired but due to the "store manager in training" having a big mouth she told all of his friends this secret information. This is purely a ridiculous circumstance. He will fight for his job because he actually likes it. Because there is a camera that is on him as he works and he is sure that it will show him dating all of his salads. But what if they refuse to look at videos and fire him anyway.
Can he get unemployment as he is looking for another job? He also goes to school full-time online. Will that affect anything? and is it wrong for this lady to give away personal info about an employee to other people? He wishes he could do something more about this but the person who told him that he is getting fired and that the info. came from the in-training store manager is afraid of losing their job as well if it's found out they let him know this information.
What actions should he take? He is currently applying for other jobs but what else can he do? We are at a loss and would be pretty hurt if he is fired. If it helps we know for a fact that at least 4 people can vouch for him that he definitely does his job correctly and is the best of the prep guys. (He works late evening shifts and those 4 people are basically everyone he works with. lol 2 of them shift managers.)
He has never been written up for anything. Never called in. Never received a verbal. Never signed a paper period about getting into trouble. But we also know Texas has stupid laws. Anyone can be fired for any reason that they see fit. They can not like your shirt color and fire you.
I have a best friend who works with him and she even agrees that this mess is ridiculous.
Sorry for writing so much but we would really like advice in what to do. Thank you!!
