What do I do if no specific reason was given to me for being fired from a job?

Postby juanito » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:49 pm

This morning I was let go from a job for a 'racial confrontation' that happened on the job site. I asked my boss what exactly was said to him about what apparently happened with this confrontation. He would not give me any specifics, he only said he wanted to end on good terms. Do I have a right to know what exactly was said to him? (I live in Pennsylvania if that makes a difference about labor laws.)

Just Ask HR Dept. if they will provide u satisfactory reference for another employer if you get another job. If they say NO, then you have to find out what you have done wrong...but if they say Yes, it could be Job cut..or something not bad.

Pennsylvania is an "at will" employment state, which means you can be fired at any time for good reason, bad reason, or no reason. Your employer is not obligated to tell you exactly what was said or why you are getting terminated. The way you asked your question makes it sound like you did have a confrontation with another employee, and just feel like their version of events might be different from your own.
