Can an 18 year old girl marry a 16 year old male with parent content and not get in trouble about her age?

Postby varik » Tue May 29, 2012 5:31 pm

I'm 18 and he is 16 our familys want us to marry we have full approval but can the court get involved because of my age? We live in Texas. Please no negative comments we have been together for along time and were haveing a child together. So please help. Also his family won't go against me and neither will mine were just wondering if we was to get a marriage license can the law get involved or be notified about my age. I know if you ave parent content you can marry at 16 but is it okay to marry someone at 18. Like can a 16 year old only marry a 16 year old or is marrying me acceptable?

Of course! If you have the parental supervision, you are set!

Congratulations. I got married young too. And people are absolutely mindless to say what age is 'correct' to be married at.

First of all, it's parent CONSENT with an s, not a t. And yes, that's fine. If they are 18 years or older, age is not a restriction. If one or both are/is younger, than they can't be more than 3 years apart I think.

I'm not judging you but if you've already had sex before marriage why rush to marry before the baby is born? Why not wait it out and see how you are as a couple. When you're that young at least wait 3 years. I met my love at 15, its been 6 years but we both want good careers etc before marrying and are both still studying. Don't feel you have to marry. Only marry if you really truly are 100% sure its for love and you really can't wait. Waiting isn't a bad thing at all- especially when you're young.

The answer is yes. Theres no "correct" age to get married as all marriages usally end in divorce anyhow.

Texas: The age of consent is eighteen. With parental and judicial consent, parties can marry but not below the age of fourteen for males and thirteen for females. (see reference below)

I cannot speak to the meaning of the word "and" between the words "parental" and "judicial". It could be interpreted in a way that could allow the "law" (as you put it) to get involved if BOTH his parents and a judge were to disagree.

The issue is with his age, not yours. He needs "parental and judicial" consent. It's that word "and" that is a sticky one.

I'd be interested in offering an opinion on such a marriage, but you are clearly not interested.

what trailer park is that drama happening in? No offense, but, this sounds like the standard southern white trash kinda hookup. Texan hicks marrying at a ungodly young age.

That is not the way we do things in the white upperclass in the non hick area.

You can do much better than a 16 year old texan hick. Find you a rich guy or an heir and give your babies a REAL father like I had. Give your babies a FACTORY OWNER For a father like i had.

Not some texan hick CHILD.

No negative comments? IMPOSSIBLE. I do not endorse parents giving kids consent to marry at 16.
I'm the most liberal guy on earth...but the ONLY way i'd give a future 16 year old daughter permission to marry would be if she met a really rich guy. A parent should never stand between a female and a river of gold. But you are texans. I know what that means. That means hick.
Hicks marrying at 16 like its still 1863.

If you are pregnant NOW.. then you are statutory rapist (i think the age of consent for sex is 17 in texas. see wiki. I dunno for sure. Unless you were under 18 during conception). If thats the case... then you'd be crazy to put his name on any birth records until the statute of limitations is up. Insane. His parents dont have to be the ones to report it. ANYBODY can. So... if you are pregnant with his baby now that you conceived after the age of 18.. dont tell anybody its his. You have to be secretive until the statute of limitations is up (whatever that is). If you arent pregnant then this doesnt apply.

Yes.. an adult can legally marry a 16 year old with parental consent.
But .. you can do MUCH better getting your future babies a RICH father.
You wont realize you should have did that....until you are 78... like most women.

Yes. Since you are 18, you do not need parental consent. Since he is 16, he does.

The courts won't get involved unless they have a reason to. Did you violate the law by having sex with him? I doubt it. It depends on how old he was when you first had sex with him.

Under Texas law no one can have sex with someone under 17 UNLESS:
1 they are married
or
1 3 years or less older
2 not a sex offender
3 the victim must be 14 or older
4 of opposite sex

So, i believe that you you will be just fine.
