Can Foreigners Join The American Military?

I have a friend from Ukraine who is interested in becoming a military analyst. Does he need to be in the American military? What universities offer programs in military analysis?

It can be a path to citizenship. I recall when I was in the Army, 40 years ago now, we had an Italian in our company who joined because he wanted to become a U.S. Citizen. It is my understanding that this remains a path to citizenship for thousands. A good path too. Its a way of earning citizenship. Its a way of serving the country of which one wishes to become a citizen.

Interesting. I know that this individual has nothing to hide and is in fact "quite" Ukrainian(i.e., not Russian or Soviet). I'll pass the information. Thanks.

A position like that requires a security clearance above classified, and to get such a clearance the U.S. government has to be able to look into your background very thoroughly(all family, friends and associates back decades...)It seems to be that this would be very difficult to do with a foreigner both because of existing international laws, and because of the expense.So I think you really have two questions here: can he join the U.S. military? - yescan he obtain a position that requires a high security clearance - most likely not

The answer to your question is yes... Any foreigner can join the U.S. Military many have done so and have gone to get their Citizenship! I am cautious when answering if one from the former Block Countries can join with a prospect of working in an area that would be considered sensitive. The possablities of becoming a linguist would be good. There is one more area to be sure of, he must have a clean police record in his country in order for his wishes to become real, especially coming from that part of the world squecky clean is a better choice of words! I just looked at your profile, you need to go to the U.S. Consulate. He can make his request there, they will then inform him as to what he needs to do to join the U.S. Military!
