Can I pay my speeding ticket instead of going to court?

Postby plys » Wed Jul 11, 2012 10:03 pm

After receiving speeding ticket, I went online and chose "Court Date Reservation for Arraignment Only."
Instead of going to court, can I just pay the ticket at the customer service window?

Sometimes they want you to see a judge first.

Yes, you should be able to. Different cities/counties have different rules so you may want to call. If you were to take it to court and lost you would have to pay at that time. So it is really no different then just going to the window to pay it. Good luck!

With most speeding tickets it is possible to pay the fine before the court date. The court date is then automatically cancelled. Some citations for serious traffic violations require that you attend the hearing. This information should be available online. You can also call the court.

Courts would be terribly choked up if everyone went to court on a traffic ticket. You can call the phone number on the ticket to find out the amount of the fine and mail it in. Or, pay at the window, as you said. You only HAVE to go to court if you plan to contest the ticket. If you're a juvenile, you may be required to appear in court personally. Calling the phone number on the ticket will help you find out.
