Can my landlord enter my flat without my permission?

Postby chepito » Sun Apr 22, 2012 4:49 am

From personal experience when I had a flat with friends at uni they are allowed to enter the flat as long as they give you twenty four hours notice. We just made sure that we made the place messy as hell or, locked all of our bedroom doors, they can't come in your bedroom without permission, only in ''communal areas''.

In the U.S. the landlord only has to notify you once in advance 24 to 48 hours depending on state there will be ongoing showings. He has the right of entry whether you are there or not at his convenience. They dont care why you are not there. He has to show the apartment when he has a prospective tenant, not when you want him to come in. He does not need your permission, he needs only to have given you notice which he did.

Like many people are saying on here, your excuse is not that great. I know you like your alone time especially if you are studying ( I know I do) but in reality it only takes less than 30 minutes at most.

What does your rental contract say? I suspect, having given you notice, the answer, however inconvenient to you, is yes.

Not really, but it would be better for you if you complied with this...otherwise you may have difficulty getting a reference from the landlord when you leave.
