Can you be an attorney for 2 things?

Postby gowan » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:57 am

What I mean is, could 1 person be a criminal defendant AS WELL as a personal injury prosecutor?

People who are criminal defendants tend not to be lawyers.

There is no such thing as a "personal injury prosecutor." Prosecutors are only criminal prosecutors.

If however, you are asking if one person can be a criminal defense attorney AND a torts (personal injury) attorney, the answer is technically yes. But have you heard the expression: "Jack of all trades but a master of none."? Attorneys tend to specialize in one area of the law. Personal injury attorneys won't do criminal or family law. Family law attorneys won't do social security cases, etc. The attorneys who dabble in highly specialized areas like torts, criminal defense and/or family law are not normally very good at what they do.
