Car Accident, No Insurance?

You weren't really harmed by him not having insurance. Since you were at fault, it really doesn't matter if he had insurance. You caused damage. But your insurance company might sue him for 1/2 the cost. He should not have been on the road. But, that's really not your concern.

That guy was trying to play poker with you hoping that you would not call the police. You did the right thing to call the police. It will later be determined that he didn't have insurance and his vehicle registration will be cancelled, he'll get a hefty fine and have to get SR22 insurance (expensive type).

His threat to sue you if you didn't have insurance is dumb. He's making a stupid statement that if you have insurance, you would not be sued, but if you didn't you would be sued. What's the point?

If you want a little revenge, you might take your police report and a copy of the letter from his insurance company and let the police know. But they probably already know. Most insurance companies are required by state law to notify the state if insurance has been cancelled or lapsed or otherwise become invalid.
