Car accident/personal injury?

Postby urian27 » Thu May 10, 2012 3:31 pm

I was hit a year ago by a drunk driver (3rd offense). I was told I had whiplash but turns out the vertebra in my spine had been shifted when hit and I had nerve damage. I had to visit multiple doctors, neurologists and physical therapists as well as being in the ER a few times. When I finally found out it was related to the car accident I decided I should talk to a lawyer. I live in MA and was wondering if anyone knew how much you get for cases like this or what to expect? Thanks!

THere are a couple of things to keep in mind

1) If you signed off or accepted a settlement already then it is a closed matter.
2) Your priority needs to be your recovery - not 'how much money can I get'. If you are not recovered you should not be suing for damages, only costs to date that are necessary to diagnose and heal you.
3) Once you have recovered (or reached a point of stasis where there is no longer any future recovery) THEN you can address a settlement for problem. Anything which is phrased like you did in your question simply implies a level of greed.
4) Find a lawyer.. get some references from him and put him in touch with the doctor who is treating you.

Simple: Nobody can answer your question. The issue is not automatic! It needs to be decided by a court. The amount you get (if anything), is decided by the court judgement!

Car accident/personal injury?

There is usually a time frame related to personal injury for an accident of this kind.
A lawyer will have to answer the question for your state.

there is no exact answer to this, you will need to talk to a personal injury attorney to get this figured out. Make sure the attorney you talk with has experience in personal injury cases as they will be able to answer your questions and guide you through the process.
