Child Labor Law HELP?

Postby muata2 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:22 pm

I need some help. I am 14 years old and planning to work at Dollar Tree just on the weekend. Starting from the beginning of August to the end of December. I was planning to work from 2 to 10 pm on Saturday, and 1-9 pm on Sundays. But on this site ...

http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ui/lablaw/childlaborlaws_faq.pdf

It states that I can only from 7am to 7pm during the school year. I will be working during the school year, but it'll be during the weekends. I'm quite confused on that. Please help.

And if you can, could you possibly name a schedule where I could follow the law, work on the weekends, and make at least $200 every 2 weeks.

Child Labor Law HELP?

Most of the businesses i.e. fast food restaurants like Wendy's, Burger King, McDonalds etc and super markets you would apply to as a 14 year old would be under state law in Texas. Good Luck!!

State Texas law states:
1) They can work no more than 8 hours in one day.
2) They can work no more than 48 hours in one week.
3) They cannot go to work before 5 a.m. in the morning or work after 10 p.m. on a day that is followed by a school day.
4) They cannot go to work before 5 a.m. in the morning or work past midnight on a day that is not followed by a school day.
5) They cannot go to work before 5 a.m. in the morning or work past midnight on any day during the time school is recessed
for the summer, if the child is not enrolled in summer school

Please note that all businesses are covered under state law but only those businesses covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are covered by the Federal law. To determine whether the business is covered under the FLSA, please contact your local US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division or visit them on-line at http://www.dol.gov/whd.

I cannot believe you can even get hired by Dollar Tree at age 14. The law says you cannot work later than 7PM during the school year, that is the law. Since we have no idea what they pay underage workers there is no way we can do your math for you.
