Conservatives, tell me again how guns reduce violence?

Postby torin7 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 12:02 pm

I would say your list is more a sign of mental illness and the effects of drug use rather than the guns themselves. You realize that James Holmes would have used explosives if he had not access to guns, right? There have also been several incidents of people attacking others and eating them. Should everyone have to have their teeth pulled in case they suddenly become a cannibal?

Your question is "How do guns reduce violence", which is followed by your rattling off of statistics from 1989 to 2011. It is interesting that you failed to mention "the Joker", who was the latest "gunman". What a pity that nobody in the audience was armed. Had there been one or more people in the audience who were armed, they could have put a round right between his eyes, and then 12 people would not be dead, along with numerous others injured, including an infant.

Do you get it now, you left wing ninny? Duh!

Your list is not complete. You are not providing all the incidents in which a firearm was involved to commit a homicide or multiple homicides, including wars and other armed conflicts, since the invention of the firearm. Without a complete list, you could hardly make a point.

How many people died by the arrow before the gun, how many people died by the sword before the bow, how many people died by the club before the sword, and how many people were killed by rocks before the first caveman discovered that he could bash his enemies brains out with a Bison Femur?
The problem isn't the weapon, it's the guy who's using it.

Rationalizing the right to bare arms is a bit of insanity. You will have those who will argue that gun ownership is insurance that the government that is suppose to be by and of the people remains that way. I was watching the China news today and their slant on the recent Colorado shooting is quite different from ours. They said American gun ownership is popular as the people do not trust their government to protect them. Unlike China and most of the rest of the world that prefers the government is better qualified to do the job. If you stop and think of it there is validity to their claim. Not only that but it makes others question why we think our country is so great when our government is such a failure. Considering how much we spend on defense brings in yet still another issue.
I have long been a advocate of the right to bare arms even have a bumper sticker proclaiming it. I do take pause with wording and with actions by those in our country. Our biggest enemy is not on foreign soil nor a foreign government. It is with in and it is our own people. The sooner we deal with the level of hate in our sick society the sooner we will get over the illness and eliminate our biggest enemy.
edit: Guns don't reduce violence they give the weaker person a leg up on the stronger or the one feared. Again why should we fear our own? Guns are not the solution only the barrier to keep at bay.
It's sad who we are. How we justify who we are is even sadder.
