Could I get in legal trouble for making animated GIFs?

Postby gideon » Thu Mar 01, 2012 11:02 pm

I asked yesterday, but now I want answers from people who have studied this. Does making GIFs from movies fall under fair use? lots of people do it online and I'm wondering. Don't give me an opinion please, I want someone to answer who is familiar with laws and fair use and copyright laws and such.

Doesn't take someone who knows the law - you could get in trouble. The odds? So unlikely, it's crazy.

First of all they need to determine that you made it, so unless you tag it with your information, they can't determine you made it. And even if it has your name tagged on it, they need to determine it was indeed made by you, instead of someone making the image and then putting your name on it. And if they manage to prove that. Even if they were to track it down to your computer, it could have been anyone on your computer.
