Delonghi Coffee Maker c 5-7 safety cap wont open!!?

I bought a Delonghi coffee maker EC 5-7 and it has a patented safety cap on it. I have no idea how to unscrew the cap! Please help!

If it is patented then it has a patent number on it. Patents are published in several places online. Go to one of the search engines (or USPTO.gov) and type in the patent number and out will pop a detailed description of the invention, including (I would guess) diagrams and description of how it works.
