Disability Correlating with Workers Compensation?

Postby collyer » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:41 pm

I am trying to do some research for my company. When trying to sell workers compensation insurance and disability insurance to an employer, is there an advantage(s) to using the same carrier? Is it best to use the same carrier or use seperate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Disability Correlating with Workers Compensation?

The concept of combining disability and workers compensation has been a theoretical discussion in the insurance business for decades. The aim would be to provide disability insurance 24/7 whether you were unable to work due to an injury at work or because of an illness or injury at home. Sounds very efficient but the concept breaks down in the details of execution.

As a result you will not find a single company that offers both coverages in a single policy or even in separate policies.

Disability Correlating with Workers Compensation?

I can't think of any insurance companies that sell both workers compensation (property/casualty lines) AND group disability (life/accident/health lines). So I think that's a moot point.

I don't think there are any companies that will write both. Most of the time, the advantage of workers comp, is when you place it with the same carrier that does the REST of the property/casualty account - the package/bop, and commercial auto.
