Do any of the 2012 presidential hopefuls support legalizing marijuana? 50% of Americans now support it...?

I'm not referring to Obama really since his administration recently escalated crack downs on medical marijuana facilities in states that have passed medical marijuana laws.

But is there anybody who openly supports this that is running for president?

If not, why not?

Half in U.S. support legalizing marijuana use: poll

(Reuters) - Half of Americans now support legalizing marijuana use, a record level, amid growing support for decriminalization that could build pressure to eventually change U.S. laws on the drug, a Gallup poll showed on Monday.

The poll showed that support was highest among liberals and adults under age 30, with more than 60 percent of respondents in those categories favoring legalization. Support was lowest, at just 31 percent, among Americans over age 65.

Ron Paul is the only that I know of at the moment, but unfortunately not many people seem to be pushing for him. However due to the growing support for legalization I'm sure that the issue can't be ignored by anyone who is running. Most chose not to touch the subject because it's a very touchy one and they are afraid of losing possible supporters. I'd say it's too early to say who supports it quite yet, except for those who have made it clear what their stance on it is. Keep looking into it I'm sure the topic will come up in upcoming debates and then you can see for yourself.

Gary Johnson and Ron Paul. How can 50% approve legalization yet only 2 presidential hopefuls support legalization? Obviously politicians don't represent the people anymore.

ron paul

he believes the war on drugs to be government intrusion into the private lives of citizens and a huge waste of money.

Yes, Ron Paul but, as a Libertarian, he is against any government safety net like social security or medicare. Let the corporations do what they want, no food inspections, no regulations. To Libertarians and most republicans, the perfect government is the kind that Haiti has, a corporate controlled mess.
