Do "equal pay advocates" realize that young women out-earn their male peers?

Postby fionnbharr » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:36 pm

and...

Women benefit from women-only scholarships. Women are a majority on college campuses, and therefore earn more degrees than men. Government assistance is available specifically for women entrepreneurs. Affirmative action programs legally favor women over men. As a result of these pro-women policies, young women out-earn their male peers. For years, women have controlled the manner in which a family's money is spent, accounting for 85% of all consumer purchases; women control the largest percentage of personal wealth, and the numbers are expected to increase.

Meanwhile, men account for the vast majority of workplace injuries and fatalities due to the fact that men are more likely to work in hazardous occupations. Despite this fact and the fact that men have a shorter life expectancy, the government focuses its attention on women's issues with offices and agencies like White House Council on Women and Girls; Women in Development, USAID; WIC, USDA; Women's Bureau, US Dept of Labor; The Office of Women’s Health, FDA; Office of Research on Women’s Health, National Institutes of Health (NIH); and The Office on Women’s Health, Office of Public Health and Science, Office of the Secretary. No similar federal agencies exist for men's issues/health. In fact, roughly twice the federal funds are spent on breast cancer research as are spent on prostate cancer research.

All this hype on women is just a liberal game for the election, pure garbage.

Aww, you must be so incredibly bored with yourself.

@Mr Chao -
Why wouldn't I trust the USDOC? First off, I live in Canada and don't have to. Secondly, the same reason I don't trust the FDA; they allow some clearly heinous things through only to raise hell and call for their banning years later. Health Canada seems to have a more cautious track record.

That being said, the Canadian analogue to the USDOC gave similar numbers about 5 years back accounting for number of hours worked and likeness of work. You know what it found? Women made 77-82% of what men made at similar work (like janitors to maid/housekeepers) for similar hours. And you know what else? New Canadian women and women of colour made less than the average for women despite working more than the national average.

And attacking 'feminists'...? Really? You don't understand that 'femenists' aren't a homogenous group that all agree and unite under one leader like some sort of feminist pope, right?

Call your mom and tell her you love her.

Edit - what shaming tactic? What's been debunked? Come one now.
Yes, I'm aware this is about US politics, but they are similar. It's just a little difficult because countering US politics with Canadian is like talking about chess to someone who's only played checkers.
As an outside observer, most of your government agencies seem to be adept at not much more than bumping into door frames.
Why should you believe some random butthole on Y!A? There you go. Why should you believe me, why should I believe you? Nobody should - yet that seems to be the basis of this community, professor.

Do "equal pay advocates" realize that young women out-earn their male peers?

They also ignore the fact that the U.S. Department of Commerce proved in an extensive report that the "77 cents for a man's dollar" was a colossal exaggeration and oversimplification that did not account for hours worked, time off or salary negotiations: http://www.consad.com/content/reports/Gender%20Wage%20Gap%20Final%20Report.pdf

If I could pay women at my office less for the same product, why the hell would I ever hire a man? Logic evades the gullible my friend.

Now how many people will TD me, thereby claiming that they know more than the USDOC?

The "spoken like a true man" poster and "Miss Sandwich" are proof of how they cringe in the face of facts and use ad hominem shaming tactics when confronted with their own lies and hypocrisy: http://exposingfeminism.wordpress.com/shaming-tactics/.

Feminists will never address those issues, because they affect men...who feminists despise with all of their black as coal hearts.

@Mix Bee: And we should believe you over the United States Department of Commerce why?

EDIT: LMFAO, another shaming tactic. All of that crap has been debunked time and time again and doesn't work anymore. We are discussing U.S. politics, not Canadian, and my answers address such. If you want to distrust my source, that's your prerogative, but don't expect me to discount it just because someone on Y!A told me to. I could easily say that Bill Gates is a poor programmer and that I don't trust his abilities in computer science, but I'll look like a fool and rightfully so.

I actually heard that this was a trend in some places...

sounds like all the hard work for equal pay is finally paying off...

but as I understand it... there are still areas of huge discrepancies, particularly high level/high pay jobs...

None of what you said touched on equal pay for doing the same work.

I've had two jobs that made me privy to the earnings of every person in the departments I worked for. One for a major defense contractor and the other for an old-line Boston investment firm. I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that women are generally paid less than men for doing the EXACT same job. I was offered a promotion once and they were going to pay me $8000 less per year than the man I would be sitting next to. Our jobs would have been EXACTLY the same. I turned down the promotion.

People can say what they like, but pay inequality is a reality.
