I havent lived with my parents and barely communicated with them since I was 16. I have a life and am a busy person and they constantly think I am out to get them. I just started graduate school and my younger sister contacted me one day asking for the child abuse hotline because she is scared. I dont even live in state and had no way of investigating the situation, so I just called CPS so they could find out if something was really wrong or not. As a result, my parents got a protective order against me. Obviously, you can't use calling CPS as grounds, so I have no idea what they said or did to get one. I got a letter to appear for a hearing in their state at domestic violence court. I have no idea what to do about this- is it serious? Does it even matter if someone has a restraining order against me its not like I even want to talk to them. My concern is that my Bachelor and Master degree are for Childhood Education. Will this affect my ability to be a teacher when they do fingerprints and DOJ/FBI background checks? My husband is also a US Marine, will this affect my ability to work on base because they do background checks? I am also struggling with infertility and if I try to adopt can this come up as well? If there are no real consequences other than not being able to contact them I could care less. Should I get an attorney for the hearing? About how much will it cost? How do I go about getting one when Im out of state- do I go there first or do I call one over the phone? Thank you for any information you can provide
