Do you agree or disagree If you vote for this ordinance, it doesn't make you a racist.?

It concerns the community of Fremont, Nebraska and their proposed ordinance to make it a crime to hire or rent property to illegal immigrants.
As promised, a Nebraska state senator is now trying to make this city ordinance a statewide law.

The Fremont ordinance itself is on the books and not enforced as it is caught in a court battle.
But one of the ordinance's strongest supporters is Fremont State Senator Charlie Janssen.

"If you vote for this ordinance, it doesn't make you a racist. If you vote against it, it doesn't make you less of a patriot or less of an American." When we talk with Janssen in August, he told us this ordinance is good government and that it shouldn't just be in effect in Fremont, but for the entire state of Nebraska.
Well now Janssen has kept his word and introduced a measure in the Nebraska Unicameral which would make it a statewide crime to hire or rent property to illegal immigrants.

We asked you to join the conversation on this one, here's what you told us on our Facebook page.

Devlin says "illegal aliens" are coming to this country to escape poor living conditions....kinda like why the Europeans started coming to this land 500 years ago.

Heidi says "it's about time. Why should the people who are here legally have to work so hard and get so little in return?"

And Stan says "City councils should concentrate on fixing the potholes, bringing in new businesses, and passing balanced budgets, not trying to enforce immigration laws."

It is ridiculous to consider this ordinance racist. I am so sick and tired of people who support illegal migration trying to force the rest of us to support it, too! Our national unemployment rate has been at or above 9% for nearly two years now; states are so deep in debt that some are near bankruptcy; hospitals are closing and the schools are overcrowded, and our national debt is at $14 trillion; yet these people believe that we can afford to allow as many illegals who want to live in the US, do so. Let's see how supportive some are of the illegals when the company they work for decides to fire them in exchange for cheaper labor.

It is not racist to demand everyone follow the same laws.

Taken as a stand alone statement, I agree with this.

However, most municipal rules and ordinances re immigration enforcement are poorly written, and place unneccesary burden on local govt. to deal with situations that they are not trained to deal with. Ref, the fiasco in Fenton, MO where at one point police were encouraged to knock on the doors of dark, foreign looking people to ask for their citizenship papers. And, that law was inspired by the Sheriff's sister in law who was afraid that local Mexican kids would use her pool when she left her house.

The ordinance does NOT make you a racist if you vote for it. Illegal Alien is not a race but a status. The ordinance does not bar anything to hispanics, blacks, asians, or whites. It simply bars those who are in the country illegally from obtaining something matter if the illegal is white, black, asian, or hispanic.

However voting against it does make you unpatriotic as we are a nation of laws. Its what we are founded on and how we managed to become a great nation. Rewarding those who break our laws is a spit on every American who ever died for our country. Looking the other way is the same thing. Then in a time of major budget woe's in every city, state, and federally the vast majority is caused by illegal aliens and their children. Why is it the states with the worst budget problems are also the same states with the worst illegal alien issues? Its one and the same problem.

However groups like LaRaza wish to make people think "illegal alien" means mexican or latino thus allowing them to play the race card. Yes 90% of illegals in the US are latino.... however 10% are from a variety of non Latino countries being black, asian, and even white. However LaRaza and such groups have constantly refused to fight for any illegal alien rights UNLESS they are hispanic and usually mexican of origin.
