As with so many sci-fi "inventions," the teleportation of matter is not so much a question of technology as the desire to overcome the innumerable technical challenges that exist along the way. Bell Labs did a good body of theoretical work on it from 1949-2009, and found that the main problem was that to shred atoms into their energetic components was not the hardest challenge: the challenge was re-assembly. Remember if you will the laws of entropy: increasing disorder. We're asking matter to re-assemble itself when it wants most of all to return to its earlier form of dissociated energy, low energy photons, and massless particles.
