Does anyone else notice how the GOP of today has changed it's view points?

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt , a few other Texas oil millionaires and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid." President Eisenhower, writing to his brother Edgar in 1954

What happened to the Republican party? It actually used to be in touch with the American people. Now polling only confirms that many of their opinions are out of touch with the people on issues concerning entitlements, taxes, and the handling of our economics. The people who want to cut those things, or change them are the minority. When will they get with it again?

They won't get with it again

"you would not hear of that party again in our political history"

This is the beginning of the end for the Republicans

At least the group that refer to themselves as republicans today

Eisenhower seemed to realize the policies that were being pushed then only supported the few richest Americans, and back then Americans weren't easily manipulated to become voting puppets for the wealthy

It was called the "Republican Revolution" back in 1994 when the moderates and more level-headed Republicans were tossed out and replaced with neo-conservatves, neo-liberals, and various reactionary ideologies.

The Republican party maintains support through divisive cultural/social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage. If the Republican party came out and supported abortion and same-sex marriage their base would stop defending them and their unethical economic policies. They'd be left with hardly anything simply because their economic policies are just plain unpopular as they only pertain to elevating the already-wealthy.

The old GOP stood up to the likes of the John Birch Society and eventually cut them loose (that's the Koch's Dad fyi) and reprimanded them for "harming the conservatie cause" for loony tunes things that eventually culminated in accusing EISENHOWER of being a communist operative.

The same thing happened to them as happened to the Democratic party.
President Kennedy would be considered a moderate Republican now.
Both sides need to find a middle road, I hope it happens before it is too late.

Well they "got with it" in 2010 in the mid terms and we will "get with it" in 2012 when we retake the White House.
Your opinion does not reflect the FACTS of the recent elections or the polling numbers.
