Does Anyone Know What Happened To The "young Inventors And Creators Of America Award" Foundation For A Creative America?

Postby Fidele » Mon Feb 10, 2014 6:56 pm

The Foundation for a Creative America was a div. of the U.S Patents, Trademarks, and Copyright Offices at the Library of Congress. It was was a nationwide competition for gifted and talented high school inventors and artists. The winners were flown to DC and awarded medals at a huge gala ceremony and exhibition at the Jefferson Bldg at the Library of Congress. It was attended by senators, congressmen, famous artists, inventors and scientists. The students received a commendation from the Vice President and had private meetings with their state representatives. It was so highly competitive and prestigious that it drew the attention of universities and private awarding scholarship foundations and helped these young people by providing opportunities for their futures. It was a major function during the 90's at least, and was supported by the administration. What happened to this award? Why was it suddenly discontinued. And where are these young people today? Anybody know?

May I please direct your attention to the National Museum of Education, In Partnership for America's Future, Inc.? We are a non-profit organization, 501(c)3, operating the only student inventor's hall of fame authorized by Wash, DC. This year we will host the 13th annual Induction into the National Gallery for America's Young Inventors at a black-tie gala. We celebrate, award, and archive the achievements of K-12 inventors and artists. See much more: www.nmoe.orgRespectfully, Kathi Byron

I agree it was quite a program! But often it is educational programs like this that are lost when times get tight. In the US we stand behind many other countries in supporting the arts.I know in New Jersey, as a result of No Child left Behind legislation, many programs dedicated to creative arts and innovation languish as teachers drill students for standardized testing. At least there is that National Museum and local programs. Corporate sponsorship has taken some of the slack:http://www.ideafinder.com/resource/youth/rpy-competitions.htmIt did quite amaze me that there was so little information resulting from my search on the internet. But such is its nature!best wishes,Librarian50
