I work for a security company, and 3 of my 5 shifts per week are at a specific plant. I was told a few months ago that when I worked at this plant, I would be a supervisor and receive supervisor pay. I did my duties well, and was never told I had done anything wrong. A few days ago, the supervisor at our district office reviewed the payroll and saw how much I had been making at this plant. He called and told me that I would no longer be a supervisor at that location, and that I would hereafter receive regular Security Guard pay. Today, the district manager (other guy's boss) called and told me I had to pay them back for the money I had made while a supervisor. He said they had made a mistake and I was only supposed to have gotten Security Guard pay. They want me to pay back over $500, and I have a meeting at the district office tomorrow to set up a payment plan. Is this legal? Can they force me to pay them back? If it's their mistake, shouldn't they eat the cost? Sorry for the long post, I just need help! For reference, I live and work in Wisconsin. I'm hoping for some specific labor laws or something that will protect my rights in this situation. Please help me and my family. Thank you for your time.
