"I Know This A lot is True" by Wally Lamb This might be an off-the-wall recommendation, but "Epic" definitely describes THIS book! Just.. Wow.. where to begin? The first chapter is the most tough hurdle... you're gonna wanna put the book down! You will curse me.. "Damn that macmac fellow! recommending *this* book to me?? what the..??" But when you get previous Chapter 1.. into Chapters 2 & three.. the story will grab you! This book is ~900 pages! It delves into AIDS, homosexuality, corporate America, parenting, nurture vs nature, drug use, immigration from the old country, the symbolism of fairy tales, ..oh boy! Each of the topics.. could be books unto themselves! Therefore the "epic" scale of this book. It really is not neatly packaged from beginning to end like most books nonetheless.. you could locate that Refreshing like i did.. or it may possibly Annoy you!.. it really is like tentacles.. non-linear, jumps from one particular subject to an intense over there subject. FWIW.. #1 New York Instances Bestseller Oprah's Book Club Critics & Readers alike are simply Raving over the author, Wally Lamb(1411+ consumer reviews on Amazon.com alone!) So if you are hunting for an Epic read.. and feel you're ready.. give this book a try..  :o) Sources: http://www.bookbrowse.com/testimonials/index.cfm?book_quantity=366   macmac's Recommendations I Know This A lot Is True(Oprah's Book Club) Amazon List Cost: $18.60 Employed from: $6.87 Typical Consumer Rating: 4.5 out of five(primarily based on 1411 critiques) not some thing for "the airplane ride".. this 1 took me over 2 weeks to study! macmac 79 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Michener's historical works generally span many generations(even millennia), but they still have the kind of epic sweep that you find in Shogun.  My favorite Michener epics are:   The Source -- tracing the history of town in the Middle East, from ancients to Romans to Crusaders to modern times.  Each of the episodes is truly memorable.   Hawaii -- the epic history of the 50th State, from prehistoric volcanoes to the Polynesians, missionaries, Chinese and the other elements that made up that diverse and fascinating community.   Centennial -- focuses on the history of Centennial, Colorado -- you get pioneers, traders, Civil War and a lot more.

Look for Eiji Yoshikawa He has a series called Musahi. If you like Shogun, you'll like these. The novels begin in the early 1600s, much like Shogun. The books are out of print, but some used sellers have them on Amazon. You may also be able to find them at the library or at a used bookstore.   There are five books series: 1-The Way of the Samurai 2-The Art of War 3-The Way of the Sword 4-The Bushido Code 5-The Way of Life and Death   They are worth tracking down if you like historical fiction. Musashi was a real figure, but the expand on his legend in Japan. I've read the whole series twice, and now I may have to start them again while I'm home for the summer. :)       BarbieM's Recommendations WAY OF THE SAMURAI(MUSASHI 1)(Musashi Book 1) Amazon List Price: $4.50 Used from: $6.49 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5(based on 7 reviews) Musashi II - the Art of War Used from: $24.99 Musashi Series: The Way of the Samurai, The Art of War, The Way of the Sword, The Bushido Code, The Way of Life and Death(Set of 5) Used from: $78.00 BUSHIDO CODE(MUSASHI 4)(Musashi Book IV) Amazon List Price: $4.50 Used from: $2.91 Musashi - Book 5: the Way of Life and Death Used from: $127.47 BarbieM 79 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment.
