Now? I don't know but... I don't know what is being organized or is on the court docket at this time but I do know that the Attorney General of the State of New York reached a settlement with Sallie Mae in April of 2007, requiring many changes in its policies as well as payment of $2 million to an education fund that will be used to assist students in choosing the best student loans for them. (The fund is NOT tied to Sallie Mae but, instead, neutral in its stance, so this should not be seen as something that Sallie Mae can corrupt to their advantage.) Based on what I can find, it is unclear as to where Sallie Mae is based. Their website has most of their contact addresses in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, but there is also one in Indiana. When looking up the Whois information for the domain SallieMae.com, it reveals that the Registrant address is in Reston, Virgnia, while the technical address is in a northeast suburb of Indianapolis called Fishers, a town of 44000 population. The reason that it could be important to contact the appropriate attorney general for the base location of Sallie Mae is that the student loan contracts may have a clause that dictates the legal venue in which actions must be filed, which is normally the state in which the corporate offices are located. What I might do if I were in your shoes is contact each of these Attorneys General and see if they were aware of any class action lawsuits against Sallie Mae. Doing some searching on Google and reading many of the hits that I found, there are lots of people who have complaints against Sallie Mae, so I am sure that at least some of them have gotten their documents together to start some sort of legal action. All you need to do is find the right thread to pull. :-) For your convenience, the Attorney General contact information for the states mentioned above are as follows: New York ======= http://www.oag.state.ny.us/ The Capitol Albany, NY 12224-0341(518) 474-7330 Consumer Helpline: 800-771-7755 Pennsylvania ========== http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/ Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General 16th Floor Strawberry Square Harrisburg, PA 17120(717) 787-3391 Consumer Protection Hotline: 800-441-2555 Indiana ====== http://www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/ Indiana Government Center South 302 W. If I can be of any further assistance, be sure to let me know. (I am currently fighting a similarly serious battle with the assistance of the Attorney General of the State of Arizona against a company based there and am leading the charge to file a class action lawsuit against the company in question. The company is a web hosting company that has caused hundreds of its clients to suffer huge financial losses due to failing to provide the services for which it has been retained. My company alone lost $4000 because of their negligence.) Cillchaoi 73 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Please verify your account to give a compliment.
