Expectations, Honor and respect in family?

Postby adusa37 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 12:28 am

Assalama Aleikum,

I want to explain my question first.
My sister-in-law was talking to me the other day and said that you (not me just in general) don't have respect and honor when you are in a foreign country. For example, I bought an iphone and I was psyched and super happy, she said "who will come and look at your Iphone"? I got angry and she said your respect is here (own country).
Now, I want to know why do we have to live based on other peoples expectations, why can't we live our own lives like we want. Yes, we do have respect in our own countries because people will look at you and will say " oh wow he has his own house and business and blah blah" .
So what if I have a house or a business in a foreign country? What difference does it make?
If I want something because it makes me happy then nobody should have a problem with it. Why do people think this way?

Thanks,
Salaam

Oh God thats the reason why i left all my family 8 years ago!!! Look no one has the right to tell you what to do! Allah (swt) gave every single soul the free will to do what it likes, when you die you will answer to allah not your sister-in-law etc so do what you like, *** respect and *** what people think/say about you, if our creator gave us the free will then who the *** are others to judge!!!

Expectations, Honor and respect in family?

Salaam;

Hard to pin-point a specific reason, but it can be jealousy/envy and/or low self-esteem. But why are you bothering yourself with her? If a person has some possessions in a foreign country, and he/she got them by a legal and halal manner, I don't see the problem.

Dear sister, be firm and dont be shaken by what other people think or comment about your life. Live your life within the boundaries of our deen and Allah will be by your side inshaallah. Take care :)
