Green Card Holder Marrying Fiancee Who Overstayed A Visa

I have a green card (i am eligible for a passport) and I want to marry my girlfriend who has entered the country with a legal visa but it has expired. Should we get merried before or after I apply for a passport ? There is a section in the form for legalization that asks if you are merried or not. Can I apply for a passport, stating that I am not merried at the time I filled the application, and then merry her and wait for my passport...

I just want to do this in the most efficient way possible!

I would suggest becoming a citizen before you marry her.
