Gun control: please read first?

Postby lorimar » Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:16 am

before i even begin im a gun nut. that is what it is. my great grandfather worked in the game commission here in PA and he had a room with over 400 different guns and a loading bench along with all the other things you would expect to find inside. i enjoyed my time in there as strange as it may sound, i loved the smell of the powder and the oil, i loved the feel of holding a gun to my shoulder and feeling the recoil, and most importantly i loved the power that i felt. Im not afraid to admit that guns give you a feeling of power and that feeling can be intoxicating. I knew that when i was holding a gun i no longer needed to be afraid. i think thats what the second amendment is about, not needing to be afraid. whatever it is you are afraid of whether its bears, the government, or your fellow man, you need not fear. but there are those out there who wish to use firearms to spread fear and to kill and that is an abuse of the guns power. Guns are a tool, they are neither good nor evil, but they are a dangerous tool and for that reason not everyone should be able to access them. You have to get a license to drive a car now consider the damage that you could do with a car versus the damage you could do with a gun.

On the flip side you cant take away things such as assault rifles because ultimately the second amendment was created to dispose of a hostile and unwanted government. you should not have to fear your government your government should fear you. guns also do reduce crime, just as cocaine is smuggled in guns would be too if you were to outlaw them. Ever since man has been told he wasnt allowed to do something he has been finding a way to work around it.

where does this bring us? outlawing guns makes the common man unsafe whether from a common criminal or a hostile government, but making all guns legal does as well. what i as a member of the NRA, as a man who walks around with 2 Colt m1911a1s, as someone who both fears and reveres the power of the gun believes is that guns should be more difficult to obtain but you should be able to obtain any firearm from .22 rifle to and M72 Law so long as you pass the necessary requirements.

Your post was very difficult to read due to the fact you failed to use punctuation. Capital letters, commas, periods, explanation marks, and question marks all would make reading your post easier. A quality education, which you seem to lack, should have given you this knowledge. go back and finish second grade only pay attention and study this time around.
I didn't bother reading

Way too much to read on Y!A. Here is my 2 cents. Keep your rifle, shotgun and handgun - turn in your AR-15, Luger and big magazines. My kids will take their chances with your small arms and small clips.

Guns will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no guns.

I don't see how making guns more difficult to obtain would do anything but inconvenience law abiding citizens.

We already have background checks but they do not prevent nut cases like the Colorado shooter from buying guns because he had a clean legal record.

You just can't predict who will go off the deep end.

I don't believe gun control is anything more than wishful thinking on the part of some individuals and politicians. I am not saying either side is good or bad just that it will do nothing now or in the future. There are enough illegal guns out there to last for centuries and plenty of people who have access to sophisticated machinery to make them if needed. People are very resourceful and can make anything they want. The problem is our population is growing, we are in a recession, jobs are not plentiful, and we have people who will act without conscience. How do we deal with that? How do we deal with the person who will take a firearm and kill without cause? Nothing that has ever been prohibited has been unavailable to the public, alcohol, drugs, not anything. So how do we stop the unthinkable from happening? I am coming to the conclusion there is no way. You cannot stop someone from killing others no matter what you ban or who you disallow from legally owning something. If the problem is viewed as a gun problem, no one will ever find an answer.

The second amendment was not created to dispose of a hostile government. The amendment has everything to do with forming militias in a time when armies couldn't travel vast distances to protect the people. Militias were local groups who protected themselves and their neighbors.

If the government decides it wants to be "hostile" to the citizenry, there will be nothing that can be done about it. No matter what weapons the average person has, the government and it's military will always have more and bigger.
