Have a roommate that is terrorizing me, I need advice, Im scared?

Postby lundie » Thu Aug 02, 2012 3:24 pm

ok, Im a single mom struggling financially, i let a friend who was having a hard time too (wife left him, is in bankrupsy) rent a room for me, it has been 2 months. He paid me $300 when he moved in and $240 the second month. not the whole amount, and Im pretty sure I wont get the whole amount either. There was not an official lease agreement signed, nothing on paper, he paid me cash.

He is late for rent, will only give me a partial amount, acts intimidating, stays up all hours of the night, fights and brings different women home every nite, tells me stories, acts like hes gonna hit me when I confront him with how he is overrunning my life, he acts like my x abusive, batterer husband.

I think he also lost his job, he is a nitemare, to top it off, he acts bossy, and im afraid he will rape me in the night, I am serious. Im really scared. Im also on welfare.

i cut off the cable cuz I cannot make my bills, when I went into his room, to get the equipment, I needed to return to them, hew went off on me, saying I cant go into his room like that, and hes getting the law involved, and to put it back!!!
What!? The cable was already disconnected!!

Then he said, he already has cable, set it up in his name at my address, and now that he has established residence, he is an official resident. "he kept saying, i already got cable, i got my cable at ur address honey, what u gonna do!!"

Then he told me that "he isnt goin anywhere, hes here to stay, and he "promised" he would report me to welfare if I tried kicking him out. Also, kept saying he is suing me, and theres nothing I can do, and he has nowhere to go and hes here to stay. I have a 5 year old daughter in all this. Im really scared.

Hes ran all my bills up rediculously, and I cant pay them. I cant pay them.
I called the cops, and the cops said I have to wait till rent day then serve him a 30 day notice.
All my friend say I should call welfare and le them know whats goin on, since Im pretty sure once he realizes Im evicting him, he will be very vindictive, and do as he "promised"
He was so abusive, he made me promise he could stay till whenever, and I told him untill fall, (3 months) but im planning on getting him out this month, but I was just playing along to keep him calm, hes totally psychotic.
Im pretty sure, he will let my faucets run, and maybe even destroy property, once I serve him those papers for that 30 days. 30 days for him to destroy my house. When he leaves, can I report the damage he has done?? There are other outrageous things, he has done, he acts so cocky, and he so sure of himself, its like hes planning something, he is a plotter. Its so scary. i own my house, and he knows it. I know hes planing on getting my house, he mentioned something like this to me. I dont know what to do, please help me.
I cant even pay my utility bills, Im so scared for me and my daughter.

My first reaction to this was that you are a troll, looking to provoke a reaction. I was going to ignore it. After a moments thought I decided that, given the possibility that you might be legitimate, you deserved the benefit of the doubt - and I would respond as if this were for real.
You need to contact an outside agency to help you through this. I would suggest RAINN - they are anonymous (if you wish), non-judgemental, and free. They can help you through the legal, and emotional, disruption that this guy can potentially cause you. They have experienced it, and lived through it. Call them for help, for you and your daughter.

Darlin, you need to go to the police, tonight. If he's threatened you then you can file charges against him, if he's frightened you, made any kind of overtures that are intimidating or violent threats, that can be considered a crime and you can file charges against him and get him removed. If he has not signed any kind of rental agreement, he may not have any rights, ask the police. And you may be able to get a restraining order.
