Have we got our priorities right?

Postby marlan43 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:36 pm

I have just been watching a programme on shoplifting, and it brought an ironic smile to my face.

I am not arguing the rights and wrongs of theft here, just the ******** way the law is applied. Note I say 'law', not 'justice'

Nick £5 worth of goods and you get a criminal record which will mark you for life. Nick persistently and you go to the stripy hole.

Yet where were the prison sentences for the bent coppers who participated for monetary gain from the phone-hacking scandal, involving tens of thousands?

Where are the prison sentences for those bank traders who fiddled hundreds of thousands by fixing the inter-bank lending rates recently?

Where are the prison sentences for TV comedians who connive to pay 0% tax on a six-figure income?

Where are the prison sentences for currency traders who, by careful manipulation of currency laws and crafty lawyers, manage to slip eyewatering amounts of money out of Britain into private Swiss accounts?

Even Nick Leeson, who brought down Barings served less than six months. Now he's a minor TV celebrity, appearing as an expert on some money programmes.

I've said it before. I will say it again.

We are locking up the wrong bloody people!

Well said, Sir. If you are 'little' people, it's called thievery. If you're a big shot, it's creative accounting. But life never has been fair, has it?

I totally agree with you
Sadly there is one Law for the poor, and another for the rich in this country.
It's the same with benefit cheats, they go to prison, but how many MP's went to prison for fiddling their expenses...not a lot..surely that is benefit fraud as well.
The poor get poorer and rhe rich get richer it seems

This rates a two page rant. Prisons full of kids that smoked some dope after class. Drug lords living better than royalty. CEOs getting bonuses for taking their companies to bankruptcy so it didn't have to pay it's employees. Politicians on the payroll of big oil. Got to stop before I get started.

We need a new Robin Hood to come to our rescue. It also happens in the workplace. Call attention to the mistake (big mistake) of someone else, and it gets laughed at. If it was me who did it, or you, we would get the boot. I have seen people pick up stuff and go out the door, told one of the salespeople, and they did nothing, so to heck with it.

In most countries justice is a commodity and has a cash value. If one has no cash one will have damned little justice. You get the justice you can afford to buy. Don't tell me that it is all hunky dory because we provide legal representation free for the indigent. The court appointed attorneys don't have one tenth the monies to defend you that the prosecutors have to convict you.
PPPFFFFFTTTT!! I better not get started.... I could yowl and ***** all night on this one.

I think it is more about 'who' they are and how much power they have behind their name. Who, usually indicates wealth too! So, put the two together and they do not get the same treatment as the rest of us 'common' folks!

And who told you life is fair? Are you just realizing this? When it comes to the powers that be, they will always get what they can and do anything to protect their own.

What about the lady collared for pinching mini wine bottles and a Maris Piper? Barred from every Marks And Spencers for life! A terrible punishment.

yes there are many injustices in the world and as far as I am concerned there are many who get away with what many call " legal theft, mainly the politicians, c.e.o. persons.
