HELP!!! What is the maximum jail time for a late unpaid tickets?

Postby abisha » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:18 am

My cousin just recently turned himself in for a, i think a speeding/parking ticket that happened almost a year ago. Because he waited so long to pay it, the amount increased to about 1,000 and he have no way of paying it off because a couple of months ago, he got laid off of his job. I want to know how long will he be in jail for this in the state of California.

30 to 90 days max. But most likely none. Probably just probation till the ticket and fines are payed.

The maximum jail term for violating your promise to appear in court is six months in jail. However, that maximum term is almost never applied. He could not have been punished for not being able to pay. Failing to show up in court is a very bad decision.
