How bad is it if halfway through deployment you are sent home for something you did?

Postby abisha » Tue Jan 10, 2012 10:05 am

Okay, so my boyfriend has been in Afghanistan (Marine Corps, 2nd deployment, infantry) for more than 4 months and he called me this morning saying him and 2 other guys got into trouble and they are sending him back to the states and he has to get a lawyer to fight his case. How bad is that? What are some of the things that could get you sent home during a deployment? Smoking marijuana, fighting, etc...? I'm worried he is in BIG trouble if they are shipping him back to be court martial-ed. Any marines out there that can help me out?

Without knowing what he did I cannot help you. When he gets back he will need legal representaion because if it is a jailable offense it is bad

I'd imagine what ever it is he did or didn't do will get him discharged from the Marines if he's found guilty, he could potentially face jail time. This is all speculation of course cause I don't know what he did.

Yes, he is being accused of something very bad to be sent home for court martial and the evidence must be pretty compelling for it to have been taken this far. Hopefully the sergeants will follow through with the promise to back up his story and he has a good lawyer.

Well I can tell you that it's not for marijuana because his *** would be out the military before his bags were packed. But he could be suspected of stealing(something important) or maybe rape of a local.

O_o

He must have done something really, really bad for them to send him home in the middle of a deployment. The only times I have heard of that happen was when a court martial was following. If he had some important people backing him up he wouldn't be coming home. I think he must be in for more trouble then he knows.

If he is innocent then he is not in trouble right?

But think about it. Every unit is sent as a unit to Afghanistan. When they send someone home they leave a hole in the unit manning. They either have to suffer with the hole or they have to get someone new to fill it. This is both disruptive to the unit plus you never know the quality of the replacement. In both cases the hole or the replacement is not going to be as good as the original experienced worker.

So he and three other guys did something that the unit is willing to have three holes, just to get them out of there. No quick Article 15 in the field, no quick reprimand in his file, they send him home.

And a big clue for YOU, if he is not willing to tell you what he was charged with then or what he supposedly did, then I would suspect he did it and does not want to admit it.

He needs to get a lawyer and you need to cool the relationship until he comes clean and tells you what it is all about.

Forgive me if I am wrong.

You know this boyfriend because you have been writing to him on line.

His next communication will be to have you send him money for the tickets home and to retain a lawyer.

Am I close?

If this is not someone that you knew in person, in the flesh before he went to Afghanistan, he is a fake who plans to scam you out of money one way or another.

Stop writing to him immediately.

I hope I am wrong. But even if I am not, he sounds like trouble.

Maybe you need to reconsider this relationship.

Good luck.
