How can drug related problems in Mexico get better when half the police force is in on it?

Americans pay big bucks for the drugs so that's why its such a big business, meanwhile Mexicans can't even trust the police or government to protect them. People don't even want to run for mayor since cleaning up the streets could get you murdered. No one is is safe from the drug lords.. what can be done? Does the US need to have less strict drug laws?

Less strict drug laws will not help, we have tried better security at the borders to no avail, the violence and lives lost because of the laws is so much worse than the consequences of drug use it is ridiculous.

decriminalization of drugs would go a long way in helping mexico
